ACOPPS and AMOPPA is a Co-operative registered by the Ghana Registrar General’s Department as ACOPPS AND AMOPPA ORGANIC PRODUCERS AND EXPORTERS LIMITED in 2015. ACOPPS and AMOPPA operate in the Central Region of Ghana, with its head office in Ekumfi Essuehyia in the Ekumfi District, about 60km from its Regional capital Cape Coast.
It started with thirteen individual farmers -7 Males and 6 females- cultivating conventional pineapple, on a total of 9 acres of land, for the local market.
This was at the time that they always felt cheated by the middlemen (i.e market women) who operating as a tightly knit group, always came with one voice on a fixed price to the detriment of producers. This prompted the farmers also to form a group in 2011 to present a formidable front in bargaining with the market women for better prices. In December that same year, GIZ under the Market-Oriented Agriculture Programme (MOAP) got in touch with this group of farmers and sent them to Shai Hills for training in good agricultural practices.
It was at the training that they got introduced to the benefits of organic farming. Having bought into the idea of organic pineapple farming, the farmers underwent further training spread over three years and became near expects in the organic pineapple farming. Committed to not turning their back on organic farming, the farmers in 2015 came together to form ACOPPS AND AMOPPA PRODUCERS AND EXPORTERS LIMITED
